UAF Grading Scale (4.0)
| Letter Grade | Marks % | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| A | 85 – 100 | 4.0 |
| A− | 80 – 84 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 75 – 79 | 3.3 |
| B | 70 – 74 | 3.0 |
| B− | 65 – 69 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 60 – 64 | 2.3 |
| C | 55 – 59 | 2.0 |
| D | 50 – 54 | 1.0 |
| F | Below 50 | 0.0 (Fail) |
UAF follows the HEC-standard 4.0 scale. Formula: GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours, where Quality Points = Credit Hours × Grade Points.
Example Calculation
A UAF student takes 3 courses: Math (3 credits, A = 4.0), Physics (4 credits, B+ = 3.3), English (2 credits, B = 3.0).
Quality points = (3×4.0) + (4×3.3) + (2×3.0) = 12 + 13.2 + 6 = 31.2
Total credits = 9 → GPA = 31.2 ÷ 9 = 3.47
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA at UAF?
GPA (Grade Point Average) measures one semester’s performance. CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is the credit-weighted average across all completed semesters — a 20-credit semester affects CGPA more than a short summer term.
What is the minimum CGPA required at UAF?
A CGPA below 2.00 at the end of any semester places a student on academic probation, and a final CGPA of at least 2.50 is generally required to graduate.
How are quality points calculated?
Quality Points = Credit Hours × Grade Points. Add all quality points and divide by total credit hours attempted to get your GPA.
Does an F grade affect my CGPA?
Yes — an F counts in attempted credit hours but gives zero quality points, which pulls your GPA down. The course must be repeated.
Can I improve a D grade at UAF?
Yes, UAF allows repeating a course once (in a regular or summer session) to improve a D grade; the improved grade replaces the earlier one for CGPA purposes.
